Fish Creek wedding photographer in Calgary

Pearce Estate park early spring wedding

This Fish Creek wedding in Calgary was exceptionally cold!

This is one of the most brave couples I’ve ever worked with! As well as the whole wedding party! Guys had a lot of fun in front of the camera which helped me a lot! I was so focused on getting the best pictures, that I did not feel any cold. This outdoor session was the longest I had in winter season! So, special respect goes to these guys for not giving  a single complaint!

We chose the Fish Creek park, as one of my favourite locations with the beautiful background any season. Besides, the bride’s house is located pretty close to this gorgeous place. The beautiful forest, accessibility, close distance to parking and the old house were our choice. Can you imagine my surprised when I discovered the old house demolished the next year after this wedding? This session was one on my last sessions in this location.

Is it possible to get prepared for the winter wedding session?

Yes, you can choose carefully the outfits. It is crucial for any bride to get cold resistant clothes! Nice and warm shoes is a must! Believe me, it is not important to have heels for the session. The most important os to keep the bride warm. The fur wrap or the jacket will do the work as well. Besides, it looks very beautiful on pictures. The small advice from me, as the photographer, is to choose any other colour than white. The winter palette of colours melt with the dress and do not underline it. It is helpful to choose something different in tones, like grey or beige. I am talking about shoulder cover, not the dress. You want to be the bride, right? The white dress is symbolic!

How can you keep warm during the winter outdoor wedding session?

I move a lot during the wedding sessions, but the couple is immobile for most of the time. I need to capture poses, emotions, the beauty of the background, keeping the couples still. Because of that in winter you can get cold pretty fast.

If there’s any reception nearby, the best way is to make breaks to get warm. If there’s no places where to hide from the cold, the car can do the thing. Don’t forget about hot tea or coffee. The thermos can help a lot.

This brave Fish Creek wedding session ended with a gorgeous sunset! All struggles were totally worth the result.
